Biafra: Dialogue with Nnamdi Kanu, Obasanjo advices Buhari


Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo have advised President Muhammadu Buhari to meet and dialogue with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“I don’t see anything wrong in that [Buhari meeting with Kanu]. I would not object to that; if anything, I would encourage it.”, the Ogun high chief said, who he spoke to Newsweek.

The ex president, who during his tenure met with Niger Delta militant leaders in 2006 to stop attacks on oil pipelines and installations, added,"I would want to meet Kanu myself and talk to people like him, people of his age, [and ask:] ‘What are your worries?’ Not only from the Southeast but from all parts of NigeriaE2We need to satisfy the youth in job creation, in wealth creation, in giving them a better, fulfilled life, in giving them hope for the future. There’s no easy way out".

However, Governors of the South Eastern states, where the IPOB is agitating for a sovereign state, have banned the group.

Speaking after a meeting of the five governors of the states, the Governors also called on its leadership and all other aggrieved groups to articulate their position on all national issues and submit to the committee of governors, Ohaneze Ndigbo, and the members of the National Assembly from the zone through the Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum.
