We may leave La Liga if Catalonia leaves Spain, Barca confirms


Spanish side, Barcelona have acknowledged the psossiblity of its exit from the Spanish league in the entire of Catalonia gaining independence from Spain.

Catalonia, Spain's richest region, have voted in a controversial referendum on Sunday to leave Spain. However, this was marred in violence as police forcefully tried to stop the vote.

Speaking, the Camp Nou based outfit's president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, says the club would have to discuss the possibility of leaving La Liga if Catalonia gained independence from Spain.

Bartomeu added that Barca's future in La Liga would need to be discussed if Catalonia ever gained independence.

"This situation does not exist so far," he said on Monday.

"But with regards to things that can happen in the future, it is something that the board of directors would discuss. It would be something to analyse calmly.

"If we discuss the subject intensely then obviously we will find the best solution. But if this [independence] happens, the board of directors will see."

This follows the suggestion by the Catalonian sport minister, Gerard Figueras, that Barcelona may play in the Premier league if Catalonia exits from Spain.
