Zuma Statue: Okorocha lambastered by Fani-Kayode and others

Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, have continued receiving knocks for the concrete statue of President Jacob Zuma of South Africa unveiled over the weekend.

The statue, which was rumoured to cost over N500 million, was one of the honours given to the visiting South Africa leader, who has been indicted for various charges bordering on fraud, and money laundering in South Africa, also received a chieftaincy title and had a road named after him in Imo state.

A civil society group, Civil Society Network Against Corruption, joined the criticism of the statue by berating Governor Okorocha for playing host to the President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma.

The group, in a statement posted on the Facebook page of its Chairman, Olanrewaju Suraji, condemned Okorocha for not only directing an Imo monarch to confer Zuma with a traditional title but also unveiling a “giant” statue of the South African leader “in a conspicuous place in Owerri.”

CSNAC, which noted that Zuma had been indicted for corruption in South Africa, expressed strong pleasure at the heroic treatment given to him by Okorocha, describing the governor’s gesture as an embarrassment to the All Progressives Congress, which is fighting corruption.

Also former aviation minster, Femi Fani-Kayode, condemned Governor Okorocha for erecting the statue.

The PDP chieftain slammed Okorocha via his twitter handle.

"Nigerians are murdered by South African security forces every day yet the clown in Imo state builds a statue in honor of Pres. Zuma.

"Igbos are murdered by Nigerian security forces every day yet that same clown in Imo state continues worship @MBuhari.

"Slavery is a curse!", he wrote on twitter.
