2019: Atiku likely to choose VP from South East

There are strong indications that the People's Democratic Party's Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar will likely pick a running mate for next year's Presidential election from the South Eastern part of the country.

It can be recalled that the former Vice president beat twelve challengers yesterday, including the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and Sokoto state Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, gathering 1,532 votes out of total of 3,221 votes, which represents almost 50% of the delegates votes, to clinch the main opposition party's ticket for next year's Presidential election.

However, according to Punch, Atiku's search for a running mate may be limited to the South East.

But some states that make up the five states of the South East may have been "disqualified".

For instance, Anambra, where Senator Ben Obi who was a former running mate to Atiku hails from, was said to have been disqualified.

The reason being that the state had produced two former Speakers, two former presidents of the Senate, one vice president and a President.

Also, Enugu State which is a PDP-controlled state, was said to have produced a former national chairman of the PDP. The state has also produced the Deputy Senate President for the past seven and half years.

For Imo State, it has produced a former deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and had also produced a Senate President.

The race is believed to be between Abia and Ebonyi states.
