Just In: Labour cancels planned strike

The planned nationwide industrial action by labour unions in Nigeria have been put on hold for now.

The strike, which should have started today, was shelved by labour leaders, who met with government representatives and organised private sector, spending hours on Monday to reach a consensus on a minimum wage.

But it was in vain as the Tripartite committee decided to convey the resolution of the meeting to President Muhammadu Buhari, for onward transmission to the National Assembly.

The report will be  submitted to  President Buhari on Tuesday  by 4:15 pm.

Meanwhile, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had embarked on a strike action.
