This year, savings is a must. This became seriously important following the unreliability of the economy but also more importantly because, according to George S. Clason, in his bestselling book, The Richest Man in Babylon, "Gold(Money) cometh gladly and in increasing quantity to any man who will put by not less than one-tenth of his earnings to create an estate for his future and that of his family”.
So a wise man or woman must save. That done, there's the problem of which saving app should one used in this country. In this blog post, I will be reviewing my top two savings app because of the reliability and security.
My top two savings app remains CowryWise and PiggyVest, listed in no particular order.
Saving with this two apps have some advantages, which includes but aren't limited to
1. Security:
Both CowryWise and PiggyVest have strong security feature. Your investments won't ever get lost. I have been used both for some months now without any issues with them.
2. Good app:
Both have good apps that makes it easy for one to manage his or her accounts very easily. No complicated approach on the apps.
Now, let's review these apps carefully and let you know why and how to get started with the apps.
CowryWise:
This is a Nigerian savings app that can be set to make automated dedutions from your bank account at certain intervals and save it up in an "online bank".
Opening an account on Cowrywise is very easy and you can start saving with as little as you can. I started with saving N2,000 monthly.
You can have your savings "locked" so you can't touch them for a certain period of time. But if it isn't locked, you can access your money at any given time with no extra cost.
So many savings app deduct money from your savings when you want to withdraw but CowryWise doesn't do such. No withdrawal fees.
Also you can get certain interest added to your money when someone opens an account with them with your invite link.
The interest gotten on your savings when you save with Cowrywise is more than I’ve seen on any Nigerian savings app. They give 10% per annum.
Their app which is available for download on Playstore, is very user-friendly, has such a sleek interface and the user experience is splendid!

PiggyVest:
This is another trustworthy savings app. It goes in the same line as CowryWise. They also give between 10%-12% interest on any money saved with them. You can recall that banks give a maximum of just 4% interest and still make deductions in the name of SMS charges and other deductions.
PiggyVest achieves it's savings objectives through the following features:
Core Savings: On the App, You can select any amount of money you want to save; the money will be debited from your account and kept in a safe account until you are ready to use the money. You will set the days of withdrawal in a year. Withdrawal on any other day apart from the days you chose will attract a 5% charge. This is to help you maintain the saving culture.
AutoSave: Piggy Bank can help you save periodically like daily, weekly or monthly. Imagine saving N100 daily, by month end you have N3,000 sitting somewhere waiting for you plus interest. If you continue like that, by end of year, you will have about N36,000. What a nice way to end the year.
Thus you select how much you want to save and select the frequency whether daily or weekly. If you don’t have money on a particular day, no worries. It will just skip that day.
SafeLock: You may want to save up for a new television or that textbook in school but after sometime when hunger strikes, you discover you have eaten like half of the money.
SafeLock enables you to lock away some part of your savings till a particular day so that you won’t have access to the money or be tempted to touch the money till that day and you will be paid up to 12% as interest. I used safelock to lock N15,000 in April 2017 for my birthday that year.
Target Savings: Unlike Safelock where you just save for a particular purpose by yourself, target saving helps you and others save for a common interest. Let’s say you and your siblings want to save towards your parent anniversary in 6-months time. Each of you from the PiggyVest app can be saving collectively into a central place until you reach your target and you will be paid plus the accrued interest.
