#NobelPrize2017: Kazuo Ishiguro wins Nobel Prize for Literature


Kazuo Ishiguro have been awarded the Nobel prize for Literature.

The Japan-born playwright was praised by the Swedish Academy as a writer "who, in novels of great emotional force, has uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world".

Mr Ishiguro was born Nagasaki, Japan but his family moved to England in 1960 when he was five. Ishiguro obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of Kent in 1978 and his Master's from the University of East Anglia's creative writing course in 1980.

Other winners of this year's awards in other categories includes Scientists Jacques Dubochet, Joachim Frank and Richard Henderson for Chemistry and Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael W. Young for Medicine or Physiology.
