OFFICIAL! Chelsea appoints legend as coach

Former Chelsea midfielder, and ex Derby County coach, Frank Lampard, have been put in charge of his former club, Chelsea, the club confirms.

The midfielder, who is one of the most decorated in the club's history, signed a three-year contract to replace Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard’s assistant at Derby, former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris, and first-team coach Chris Jones also return to Stamford Bridge, with the Championship club confirming “an undisclosed compensation package has been agreed” for the trio.

New Chelsea manager Frank Lampard told the club’s official website: “I am immensely proud to be returning to Chelsea as head coach.

“Everyone knows my love for this club and the history we have shared, however, my sole focus is on the job in hand and preparing for the season ahead.

“I am here to work hard, bring further success to the club and I cannot wait to get started.”
