Chairman of the powerful Northern Elder's Forum (NEC), Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, have given a passmark to the candidature of Atiku Abubakar, People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential flagbearer, and his running mate, former Governor of Anmabra State, D. Peter Obi.
The Elder statesman, who made this known in a statement, described the ticket as a balanced and good one, owning to the fact that Atiku is a Northern Muslim and Obi is a Southern Christian.
However, he expressed doubt whether Obi is a collective choice of the Igbos, a tribe where the former governor hails from.
"It was expected all along that the slot of the Vice President should go to the South East for the PDP as APC has chosen the South West.
"What is not ascertained is whether the choice is the collective choice of the majoority of the people of the South East.
"Atiku Abubakar/Peter Obi ticket is a very good one. Atiku Abubakar is a Muslim from the Northwhile Petre Obi is a Christian from the South just as Muhammedu Buhari is a muslim from the North and Yemi Osibanjo is a Christian from the South. Everything is balanced."
