The Federal High Court, sitting in Lagos, have ordered the release of a former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu from prison.
Justice Mohammed Liman ordered that Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, who was convicted of N7.1bn fraud alongside his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited, and a former Director of Finance at the Abia State Government House, Jones Udeogu and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Dr. Orji, who served from 1999 till 2003 as the Governor of Abia State in the South East of the country, was sentenced to 12 years in prison but the judgement was quashed after the judge determined on May 8th that he was wrongly imprisoned.
